The Ministry of Environment has stated that prompt treatment has commenced for the tusker named “Kawanthissa,” which has been roaming in the Galgamuwa area.
Treatment was initiated following an operation conducted last morning (24) in the vicinity of the Usgala Siyambalangamuwa Wewa by a special team from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, led by a veterinary surgeon from Nikaweratiya.
The medical operations are being carried out under the instructions of the Veterinary Director Dr. Ganga, with the intervention of Minister of Environment Dhammika Patabendi and the Ministry Secretary.
Veterinary surgeons, wildlife officers, and specialist medical teams from the Department of Wildlife Conservation are participating in the operation.
The Department of Wildlife Conservation stated that all necessary veterinary procedures are being carried out continuously to ensure the health and safety of the tusker Kawanthissa. Veterinary teams and wildlife officers are also closely monitoring the tusker’s condition.
