Ex-Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena’s wife arrested on bribery charge

Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardhana’s wife, Chinari Lakmanthi Hettiarachchi, has been arrested by officers of the Bribery Commission on bribery charges.

 

She is accused of providing a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to an office assistant at the Colombo High Court, in order to influence a judge to impose a suspended prison sentence in relation to a case pending against former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena at the court.

 

She is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court later today.
