A former Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Kamal Bandara Dissanayake, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged corruption offence.
The suspect is accused of acting outside the prescribed procurement procedures when printing books titled “Dahami Niwahanai Apekam Rendi Heta Dinai” for the Ministry of Buddhasasana.
The suspect had allegedly entrusted the printing of the relevant books to an institution favoured by him on three occasions, at a total cost of Rs. 4.79 million.
The CIABOC claims that the suspect had committed the offence of corruption by causing a loss to the government and providing an undue benefit to the favoured institution by making payments without the relevant stock of books being received by the ministry’s warehouse.
Accordingly, the suspect was arrested by the CIABOC’s special investigations unit officers at around 10.30 a.m. today (25).
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
