Former State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake’s former private secretary, who was arrested over an alleged bribery incident, has been further remanded until October 9 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama after considering submissions made by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the suspect’s attorneys, Ada Derana reporter said.
CIABOC officials informed the court that the suspect had allegedly taken steps to facilitate the export of phosphate to three selected companies, outside the proper procedure through Lanka Phosphate Limited.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect had allegedly solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 8.1 million by assisting and facilitating the companies in obtaining the licences required to import phosphate, the investigating officers informed the court.
The CIABOC also informed the court that seven more suspects are due to be arrested in connection with the incident.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate issued the order to further remand the suspect until October 09, 2026.
