Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has been ruled out of England vs Sri Lanka deciding third ODI at the Kennington Oval in London, the England & Wales Cricket Board announced.
Buttler suffered a hamstring injury during the second ODI. Subsequently, Dan Lawrence was added to the England squad.
Lawrence was part of the Surrey squad in the County Championship fixture against Somerset but has now been withdrawn. He will join the rest of the team during today’s training session.
Buttler, who scored 69 off 49 balls, suffered the injury while batting during England’s unsuccessful chase at Headingley. He pulled up in the 38th over and only returned 10 overs later but couldn’t make much of an impact as England lost the game by 16 runs.
In the last 14 overs of the chase, England could only manage to hit one six and a four.
The series is level at 1-1 after England won the series opener.
