The founder of ‘Singlanka’, a renowned name in the Sri Lankan music industry, Ananda Ganegoda, has passed away.

Ganegoda was a veteran artist who made a significant contribution to the revival and development of Sinhala classical and quality music (Subhavitha Geetha) in Sri Lanka.

Working closely with local musicians and creators, he established ‘Singlanka’, a cassette production company aimed at ensuring the creative independence, artistic quality, and economic well-being of artists involved in music production.

In 1980, he pioneered Sri Lanka’s cassette music industry by simultaneously releasing 25 cassette tapes featuring leading vocalists, including Nanda Malini and W. D. Amaradeva. Through this landmark contribution, he played a significant role in enriching Sri Lanka’s musical heritage, with more than 2,000 songs released under his direction.

Following the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), ‘Singlanka’ earned considerable recognition within the industry as a music production label that respected audience tastes by releasing high-quality artistic creations to the public.

Ananda Ganegoda also served as the Chairman of a leading business network in Sri Lanka.

His remains are currently lying at his private residence at No. 179/2, Templers Road, Mount Lavinia. According to family sources, the date and time of the final rites will be announced later.
