England won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka in the decisive third One Day International at The Oval, with the three-match series level at 1-1.

England captain Harry Brook opted to set a target in the series decider after Sri Lanka levelled the contest with a 16-run victory in the second ODI at Headingley on Thursday.

Sri Lanka had posted 321 for six in the second match, led by captain Kusal Mendis’ 121, before England were restricted to 305 for nine. Dunith Wellalage played a key role with the ball, taking three wickets, while England’s Jos Buttler, who scored 69, was forced to leave the field after suffering a hamstring injury.

Buttler has subsequently been ruled out of today’s series decider. Jordan Cox is set to take over the wicketkeeping duties, while Dan Lawrence has been added to England’s squad as cover.

The series opened with an 89-run victory for England at Chester-le-Street, where Will Jacks made a significant contribution with both bat and ball. England were bowled out for 265 before Sri Lanka were dismissed for 176.

For today's encounter, England have made three changes to their playing XI from the last game - Cox has replaced Buttler while Liam Dawson and Sonny Baker have replaced Rehan Ahmed and Josh Tongue respectively. 

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are unchanged.
