The people continue to support the present government, despite claims made by political opponents, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said.
Addressing a public rally in Gampaha today (27), President Dissanayake said political power ultimately rests with the people and that no one could remove the government from power as long as it retained public support.
The Gampaha rally was held as part of the “People’s Rule – Two Years Strong. Progress for All” series marking two years of National People’s Power (NPP) government.
The President said the government had come to power without the backing of a political dynasty, media propaganda, financial power or intimidation.
He further claimed that, for the first time in the country’s history, an NPP government had been formed through what he described as the power of the people.
