
Concerns and proposals regarding Advance Personal Income Tax (APIT) were raised during a special discussion between Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and members of the National Executive Committee of the Banks and Finance Forum.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance, with banking and financial sector representatives presenting their views on APIT and expressing hope for a favourable response from the authorities.
The discussions also covered Sri Lanka’s recent economic progress and achievements, as well as the distribution of economic benefits among the public.
The need to draw on the expertise and experience of banking and financial sector professionals to further strengthen the country’s economic and development process was also discussed.
Particular attention was given to the need to expedite the finalisation of collective agreements for state banks covering the 2027–2029 period, with possible future steps also discussed.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of effectively utilising the expertise of professionals in both the public and private sectors to strengthen economic stability and development.
