England produced a dominant all-round performance to seal the three-match One Day International series 2-1, defeating Sri Lanka by a massive 223 runs in the decisive third ODI at The Oval.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, England piled up 355/7 in their allotted 50 overs, before dismissing Sri Lanka for just 132 in 29.1 overs.
The comprehensive victory gave England the series after the two sides entered the final match level at 1-1.
England's innings was built around a superb maiden ODI century from opener Tom Banton, who smashed 126 off 105 balls, including 16 fours and five sixes. It was Banton's first ODI hundred for England.
Banton shared a crucial 150-run partnership with captain Harry Brook, who contributed 77 from 66 deliveries. The partnership came after England lost Ben Duckett for a duck early in the innings and Joe Root for 18, stabilising the hosts before they accelerated through the latter stages.
Jordan Cox added further impetus with an aggressive 76 off just 52 balls, while Jamie Overton remained unbeaten on 21 off 14 as England finished strongly. Cox's innings included six fours and two sixes.
England scored 104 runs in the final 10 overs, transforming a strong platform into a formidable 355 for seven.
Sri Lanka's bowlers struggled to contain the England batting assault, although Asitha Fernando finished with the best figures for the visitors, taking three wickets for 64 runs. Sachindu Colombage claimed two for 71, while Dilshan Madushanka and Janith Liyanage took one wicket each.
Chasing a challenging 356-target for victory, Sri Lanka's innings never gained momentum and collapsed for 132 in 29.1 overs, leaving England with a 223-run victory.
Kusal Mendis top-scored for Sri Lanka with 35 off 26 balls, while Janith Liyanage made 19 from 20 deliveries.
England's bowling attack maintained pressure throughout the chase, with Liam Dawson taking three wickets for 26 runs to play a major role in Sri Lanka's collapse.
The result completed a turnaround in the series after Sri Lanka levelled the contest in the second ODI at Headingley. Sri Lanka had posted 321 for six, powered by a century from Kusal Mendis, before restricting England to 305 for nine for a 16-run victory.
England had won the opening ODI by 89 runs at Chester-le-Street, where Will Jacks starred with both bat and ball, before Sri Lanka responded in Leeds to force the series decider.
The final match also came after England were forced into a change to their squad, with Jos Buttler ruled out through injuryfollowing the second ODI. Jordan Cox was among the options to take over the wicketkeeping duties, while Dan Lawrence was called into the squad.
