The Colombo High Court ordered that the case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his grandmother, Daisy Forrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act be called on November 3 for a pre-trial conference.
When the case was taken up today (28), Yoshitha Rajapaksa appeared before the court, said Ada Derana reporter.
The second defendant, Daisy Forrest, was not present in court. President’s Counsel Anil Silva, appearing on her behalf, submitted a medical report to the court.
The judge subsequently stated that the defendant’s presence in court on the next date is essential.
Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, State Counsel Oswald Perera informed the court that the prosecution intends to amend the indictment.
The State Counsel further stated that the amendment would be made during the pre-trial conference.
After considering the submissions, the judge ordered that the case be called on November 3 for the pre-trial conference.
The case was filed by the Attorney General against Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest, alleging that they committed an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by depositing nearly Rs. 57 million, allegedly acquired through illegal means, into three bank accounts.
