Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila was acquitted and released by the Colombo High Court today in the case in which he was accused of misappropriating Rs. 21 million through the use of a forged power of attorney to sell company shares.
The Colombo High Court ordered the acquittal and release of former Minister Udaya Gammanpila, who was accused of committing criminal breach of trust involving Rs. 21 million through the misuse of company shares belonging to an Australian businessman.
Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda delivered the verdict today following a lengthy trial, said Ada Derana reporter.
Delivering the judgment, the judge stated that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
Accordingly, the court ordered that the accused be acquitted and released.
The case was filed against Udaya Gammanpila during the tenure of the previous Good Governance (Yahapalana) government. He was accused of committing criminal breach of trust involving Rs. 21 million by selling company shares belonging to Australian businessman Brian Shaddick using a forged power of attorney.
