The Supreme Court has ordered former Disaster Management Minister A. H. M. Fowzie to pay Rs. 6.6 million to the Consolidated Fund after ruling that he violated fundamental rights by using a luxury vehicle for personal purposes.

 

The vehicle had been provided by the government of the Netherlands to the Disaster Management Centre while Fowzie was serving as the Minister of Disaster Management.

 

In addition to the compensation, the Supreme Court ordered the former minister to publish newspaper advertisements in all three languages, featuring a photograph of the vehicle and an apology for its misuse, Ada Derana reporter said.
