Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (30) as proceedings resumed in a case filed over the alleged misuse of public funds.
The case, filed under the Public Property Act, involves allegations that more than Rs. 16.6 million in public funds were misused in connection with former President Wickremesinghe’s participation in his wife’s graduation ceremony in the United Kingdom in 2023.
The case has been filed against former President Wickremesinghe and former Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake.
Former President Wickremesinghe arrived at the court premises today to appear in connection with the proceedings, Ada Derana reporter said.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had previously informed the court that its investigations into the allegations had been completed and that the relevant investigation files and documents had been submitted to the Attorney General for further action.
Following the CID's submission, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena ordered that the case be called today to ascertain the Attorney General's position regarding the matter.
