The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (30) ordered that the case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake be taken up again on November 11 to obtain the Attorney General’s advice.

The case was called before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena, with both former President Wickremesinghe and Ekanayake appearing before the court.

The court issued the order after considering the status of the investigations and the need to obtain the Attorney General’s advice on the next steps in the matter.

The case concerns allegations of the alleged misuse of public funds, involving more than Rs. 16.6 million.

The allegations relate to the use of public funds in connection with former President Wickremesinghe’s participation in his wife’s graduation ceremony in the United Kingdom in 2023.

The case has been filed under the Public Property Act against the former President and former Presidential Secretary.

The CID had previously informed the court that its investigations into the allegations had been completed and that the relevant investigation files and documents had been submitted to the Attorney General for further action.

Wickremesinghe arrived at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court earlier today to appear in connection with the proceedings.

Following consideration of the matter, the Magistrate directed that the case be called again on November 11, when the court is expected to be informed of the Attorney General’s advice.
