The United National Party (UNP) has issued a statement this afternoon (30) regarding the alleged assault on a security officer attached to UNP leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe allegedly by a cameraman of a private media organisation.
According to the statement, the security officer who was assaulted while providing security to the former President has lodged a complaint with the police regarding the incident.
The UNP statement also questioned whether the incident occurred due to inadequate security arrangements being in place when Wickremesinghe, arrived at the court premises.
The incident occurred today (30) when the former President arrived at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court for court proceedings and was leaving the premises, during which the security officer standing close to him was assaulted.
Following the incident, the security officer was hospitalized.
