National People's Power (NPP), MP Asitha Niroshana, and Mayor of the Kaduwela Municipal Council, Ranjan Jayalal, have been summoned to the Athurugiriya Police Station over a complaint filed alleging the unauthorized use of land belonging to the Millennium City housing complex as a Metro bus stand in Athurugiriya.
The two public representatives were summoned following a complaint lodged by the management of the housing complex, alleging that approximately 100 perches of land belonging to the company had been forcibly acquired for the purpose.
The attorney representing the company has alleged that although five days have passed since the complaint was lodged, police have been reluctant to take legal action against those involved or even report facts to the court.
The Metro bus stand in Athurugiriya was ceremonially declared open on September 29 under the patronage of NPP Parliamentarian Asitha Niroshana and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal. The land allocated for the bus stand was cleared and prepared for the event on September 26.
The housing complex’s management subsequently alleged that the land belongs to the Millennium City housing complex and that it had been forcibly obtained for this purpose.
Accordingly, the management lodged a complaint with the Athurugiriya Police regarding the incident.
Based on the complaint, MP Asitha Niroshana and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal had been summoned to the Athurugiriya Police yesterday (30).
