A youth has been arrested with a consignment of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine) estimated to be valued at around Rs. 22.5 million in Kirindiwela, Sri Lanka Police said.
The narcotics were seized during a special operation conducted by the Ganemulla Police based on intelligence received.
Along with the contraband, two electronic weighing scales and two mobile phones were also seized from the house, where the suspect had been residing on rent.
The house was searched based on information revealed during the questioning of an individual arrested in the Ganemulla area several days ago, police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, a resident of Minuwangoda, had allegedly rented the house in Kirindiwela to carry out the drug trafficking operations.
The suspect had reportedly told investigators that the drugs were supplied through a drug trafficker who is currently hiding in Dubai.
The suspect and the seized drugs have been handed over to the Kirindiwela Police for further investigations.
