Police have uncovered more details regarding a group of suspects who were allegedly preparing to carry out multiple murders in the Maha Induruwa area of Kosgoda.
Acting on information received by officers of the Walana Anti-Vice Squad, a team raided a house within the Kosgoda Police Division, last night (03), where a group of suspects was reportedly preparing to murder four individuals.
Following a shootout with police personnel, one of the suspects sustained injuries, while one suspect was arrested and another had reportedly fled the scene.
Police also recovered several firearms and rounds of ammunition from the house, including a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight rounds, a revolver with six rounds, another 9mm magazine with six rounds, and a foreign-made hand grenade.
A motorcycle with fake number plates and a three-wheeler, which had allegedly been prepared for use in carrying out the planned crime, were also taken into police custody.
The injured suspect was admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital for treatment, police said.
Police said the two arrested suspects are aged 32 and 33 and are residents of the Maha Induruwa area.
The suspects and the seized property have been handed over to the Kosgoda Police, while further investigations are being conducted by the Kosgoda Police and the Walana Anti-Vice Squad.
Police suspect that the group was planning to target members of the underworld figure known as ‘Karandeniya Sudda,’ allegedly as part of a retaliatory attack by gunmen linked to the criminal group led by the underworld figure known as ‘Loku Patty’.
‘Podi Patty’, the brother of Loku Patty, who is currently in remand custody, was shot dead at a residence in the Welikanda area of Ahungalla on October 01, 2026.
Police suspect that the latest planned killings were being organized by ‘Loku Patty’ in retaliation for the murder of ‘Podi Patty.’
