
Four people have been killed in separate road accidents reported in several parts of the island over the past 24 hours, according to police.
A 47-year-old man was killed in an accident in the Kithuluthuwa area along the Habarana–Trincomalee Road.
The accident had occurred when a car travelling from Habarana towards Kantale collided with a three-wheeler travelling in the opposite direction.
The three-wheeler driver and a passenger seated in the rear were injured and admitted to the Kantale Base Hospital, where the driver succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of the Agbopura area, police said.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed in a separate accident on Dharmapala Mawatha in Ampara when a van travelling towards Kalmunai collided with a three-wheeler travelling ahead of it.
The three-wheeler driver, two women and a girl sustained injuries in the accident and were admitted to the Ampara District General Hospital, police said.
The deceased has been identified as a 43-year-old woman from the Udawalawe area, who succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
In another accident in the Diyagama area of Kalutara North, two individuals were killed when a motorcycle collided with a bus, police said.
The accident had occurred when a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction collided with a bus travelling from Horana towards Kalutara.
The motorcyclist and the female pillion rider, who sustained critical injuries, were admitted to the Galpatha Divisional Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
The deceased have been identified as a 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, both residents of the Galpatha area, police said.
