
The number of dengue-related deaths reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has risen to 78.
According to data from the National Dengue Control Unit, a total of 100,871 dengue cases have been reported to date, with the case fatality rate recorded at 0.077%.
Of the total number of cases, 52.45%, or 52,906 cases, have been reported from the Western Province.
At district level, the highest number of dengue cases has been reported from the Gampaha District, with 21,377 cases.
Meanwhile, 19,759 cases have been reported from Colombo, 7,689 from Kandy, 6,400 from Kalutara and 6,305 from Matara.
According to monthly data, 151 dengue cases have been reported during the first few days of October, while 5,230 cases were recorded in September.
The highest number of dengue cases was reported in July, with 29,964 cases.
A further 21,533 cases were reported in June and 10,155 cases in August.
At present, 37 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas have been identified as dengue high-risk zones.
Health authorities have urged the public to take immediate steps to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and maintain a clean environment to prevent the further spread of dengue.
