The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education will introduce education reforms for preschools from next year, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Nalaka Kaluwewe said.
Speaking at a programme held today (5), Kaluwewe said all preschools across the country would be required to follow a single curriculum under the new reforms.
He said the move would put an end to the use of different educational approaches and curricula by individual preschools.
“The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education is primarily responsible for the country’s human resources. As part of the ongoing education reforms, we are also introducing reforms to preschool education. From next year, a single curriculum will be introduced for preschool education, and it will be implemented across the country,” he said.
Kaluwewe added that preschools would no longer be permitted to teach different content or follow separate educational approaches.
He said a comprehensive programme was already underway to assess the existing education system and introduce reforms across all three sectors of education.
