The Parliamentary Caucus for Youth has held discussions on obtaining the support of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) for its future activities and strengthening youth participation and leadership in the political process.
The discussions took place when the Parliamentary Forum for Youth met at the Parliament complex under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara.
Representatives of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy also participated in the meeting.
Discussions focused on the support and training opportunities that could be provided by the WFD for the future activities of the Parliamentary Forum for Youth, as well as potential initiatives to strengthen youth leadership development.
The participants also discussed the importance of actively engaging young people in political processes, policymaking and governance.
Particular attention was given to ensuring that young people remain engaged in political and policy discussions beyond elections, rather than limiting their participation to the electoral process.
The meeting also addressed social and economic challenges faced by young people, including unemployment, and discussed the implementation of training and awareness programmes aimed at strengthening youth leadership and political participation.
