Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organisation who is serving a prison sentence, was produced before the Colombo High Court today (07), in a prison attire.

Meanwhile, a peaceful protest was scheduled to be held today at the Colombo Court Complex over the reported removal of Gnanasara Thero’s robes by the Department of Prisons.

Venerable Neethiyagama Chandima Thero said the protest would commence at 9.00 a.m. He stated that the protest was not intended to challenge the court order, but to express opposition to the reported removal of the Thero’s robes and his appearance in civilian attire.

The development follows concerns raised by several individuals regarding the clothing worn by Gnanasara Thero when he was previously produced before court.

Yesterday, the Colombo High Court ordered that the case against Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero be recalled on October 23.

The case was taken up today before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala, said Ada Derana reporter.

At the time, Gnanasara Thero, who had been arrested under a warrant, was produced before the court by prison officials dressed in civilian attire.

After considering the submissions made, the High Court Judge ordered that the case be recalled on October 23.
