The Chief Prelates of the three Buddhist Nikayas have expressed their displeasure over the decision to produce Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who is currently serving a prison sentence, before the court in prison attire.
In a letter addressed to the Commissioner General of Prisons, the Chief Incumbents stated that requiring the monk to appear before court in prison clothes was improper, emphasizing that the authority to disrobe a Buddhist monk only rests with the relevant Sangha Sabha.
They further requested that Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero be permitted to appear before court wearing his monastic robes.
