The Opposition is scheduled to submit a no-confidence motion against Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne in Parliament today (9).
The motion has reportedly been drafted based on 49 allegations against the Speaker.
The Opposition is seeking to move the motion, alleging that the Speaker’s conduct in handling parliamentary proceedings has been biased and undemocratic, raising concerns about his suitability for the position.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has also alleged that the Speaker rejected privilege questions and motions previously submitted by the party without providing reasonable grounds.
The signing of the no-confidence motion commenced yesterday (8) at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, under the patronage of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who placed the first signature.
SJB Member of Parliament Ajith P. Perera stated that the motion, signed by Opposition MPs, would be handed over to the Secretary-General of Parliament today.
