The Government of Sri Lanka has condemned the recent attacks targeting civilian airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which have resulted in deaths and injuries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said.
In a statement, the Ministry extended its sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Sri Lanka also expressed solidarity with the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and engage in constructive dialogue to de-escalate tensions, it added.
Meanwhile, three people were killed in attacks on Riyadh airport on Thursday, Saudi authorities said on Friday, as Yemen's Houthi group stepped up missile strikes on the kingdom and tried to shut down its airspace in an escalating war triggered by the US-Iran conflict.
The strikes, which also injured several people, damaged a Saudia Airlines plane and sent smoke billowing over the airport, led many airlines to cancel flights to the Saudi capital days before it is due to host a major meeting of global oil chiefs.
Yemen's Houthi group said on Thursday it had attacked the airport with two ballistic missiles.
