The Department of Irrigation has stated that four spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by two feet each due to prevailing heavy rainfall.
Accordingly, water is currently being released from the reservoir at a rate of 5,600 cubic feet per second, the department said.
In view of the increased water discharge, communities using the Deduru Oya in areas downstream of the reservoir have been urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
