Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka says steps are being taken to establish additional fuel stations to address the ongoing fuel issue in the country.
He stated that the new fuel stations are expected to be operated by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
Minister Karunathilaka made these remarks while speaking to the media in Colombo.
He explained that private fuel suppliers had significantly reduced their fuel supplies to the market, citing difficulties in bearing the losses incurred through their operations.
In response, the CPC increased its share of fuel supplied to the market from 55% to 80% to help minimize the impact on consumers, the Minister said.
“However, we understand the difficulties faced by private suppliers. We request them to remain patient until the current crisis subsides, after which they will have the opportunity to continue their businesses while earning a reasonable profit.
“We hope to establish new fuel stations in the future to minimize the difficulties faced by fuel consumers during crisis situations of this nature,” he said.
