Nawalapitiya Urban Council Chairman Amal Priyangara and three others, who were arrested in connection with an alleged assault following a motorcycle accident on the Nawalapitiya–Talawakele main road, were produced before the Nawalapitiya Magistrate’s Court today (12), police said.
Those produced before the court by Nawalapitiya Police include the Urban Council Chairman, his son, his son-in-law, and the Assistant Estate Manager of Imbulpitiya Estate in Nawalapitiya.
The alleged assault reportedly occurred on the night of October 10, following a motorcycle accident in front of the Urban Council Chairman’s residence. Both the motorcycle rider and the pillion passenger sustained injuries in the accident.
According to reports, when the motorcycle rider attempted to remove the vehicle from the scene, the Chairman, his relatives and several other individuals arrived at the location and allegedly assaulted him.
Following an investigation into the incident, Nawalapitiya Police reviewed CCTV footage recorded in the vicinity before arresting the four suspects and producing them before the court.
