A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal by October 13, the Department of Meteorology said.
Under the influence of this system, an increase in rainfall is expected across the island and in the deep and shallow sea areas around Sri Lanka over the next few days, beginning tomorrow (13).
The general public, as well as naval and fishing communities, have been urged to remain attentive to future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology regarding the developing weather system.
Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island, it said.
Heavy rainfall of around 100–150 mm is likely in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also possible in some parts of the other provinces.
The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise potential damage caused by temporarily localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.
