MP Chamara Sampath produced before court
Former Minister and current Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), has been brought before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
He was produced before the court by CIABOC officers after being arrested following his appearance before the commission to provide a statement.
The arrest follows an investigation into allegations that he solicited a bribe of Rs. 8.1 million from three selected companies in exchange for facilitating phosphate exports without following the proper procedures and assisting the companies in obtaining the necessary export licences.
