The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the provision of a stationery allowance of Rs. 6,000 each to 1.5 million schoolchildren for the 2027 academic year.

Accordingly, the relevant funds will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the parents of one million schoolchildren from families registered under the ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits programme.

Additionally, plans are in place to issue vouchers worth Rs. 6,000 to a further 500,000 children identified by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.

The school stationery allowance programme has been in operation since 2025. The President has informed the Cabinet that the necessary steps will be taken to implement the programme for the 2027 academic year.
