Due to heavy rainfall currently being received in the Daduru Oya River basin and catchment areas, two spill gates of the Daduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by one foot each to regulate the inflow of water, according to the Irrigation Department.
Director of Irrigation (Water Management), Engineer H.M.P.S.D. Herath, stated that with the opening of these spill gates, water is currently being released into the Daduru Oya at a rate of 1,400 cubic feet per second.
Accordingly, the Department of Irrigation has issued a special notice urging residents living downstream of the Daduru Oya Reservoir and along the riverbanks, as well as motorists passing through the area, to remain vigilant and closely monitor water levels.
