Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is currently on an official visit to Bhutan, where she has engaged in discussions to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation between the two countries. During a meeting with Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay in Thimphu on Tuesday (01), the two leaders discussed cooperation in education, health, trade, tourism, air connectivity and people-to-people relations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit, where they also exchanged views on sustainable development, good governance, climate action and environmental protection. Prime Minister Amarasuriya also met former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and discussed cooperation in addressing climate change, restoring mangrove ecosystems, promoting sustainable agriculture and strengthening environmental resilience. Addressing a high-level panel at the summit, she called for collective action to build resilient and sustainable food systems, while emphasising the need for greater international cooperation, climate finance and access to technology.
