Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 5 wickets in the second ODI to win the three-match series 2-0 at the Pallekele International Stadium.

Captain Charith Asalanka smashed an unbeaten half-century to guide the home side to victory with help from Nishan Madushka and Sadeera Samarawickrama, who both scored 38 runs each.

Sri Lanka reached the target of 190 runs in just 38.2 overs to clinch the ODI series 2-0 with one match to go.

Earlier, West Indies were bowled out for 189 after being put into bat by Sri Lanka who won the toss. The match was reduced to 45 overs due to rain.

Sherfane Rutherford hit a sparkling half-century as West Indies posted 189 in the rain-curtailed second one-day international against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Wednesday.

Rutherford (80) joined hands with tailender Gudakesh Motie (50 not out) to lift West Indies from a precarious 58-8 after they were put in to bat in overcast conditions.

The match has been reduced to 44-overs a side as the start was delayed by two hours because of rain.
Sri Lanka needed to score at 4.32 runs an over to clinch the three-match series after having won the opening game by five wickets.

Rutherford and Motie put on a record 119 runs for the ninth wicket, blunting the spin-heavy Sri Lankan attack.

The home side came into the series in some great form with a 2-1 win in the T20I series against the men from the island nation. They continued their momentum as they won the first match of the ODI series as well.
