The India U-19 Women’s team triumphed in style over South Africa, to to win the 2025 ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, their second WC title, in a commanding 9-wicket victory in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
With their victory, India also became the first team to successfully defend the Women’s U19 World Cup title.
Gongadi Trisha’s excellent figures of 3/15 with the ball and an unbeaten 44* with the bat would power the Indians to the title with ease.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that would come to haunt them soon.
The Proteas women were run amok by the Indians, crumbling to the might of the spinners as the SA batters struggled to score.
Only three players (Jemma Botha, Karaba Meso, Fay Cowling) would muster atleast 10 or more runs, while Mieke Van Voorst added an invaluable 23 from just 18 balls she was scalped as well.
By the end of the first innings, it was a dominant show by the Indian spinners as they were able to bundle out South Africa for just 82 runs.
Gongadi Trisha finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/15 in her quota. In addition the likes of Vaishnavi Sharma, Aayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodia finished with two scalps each while Shabnam Shakil took one wicket in the first innings.
With a seemingly easy target to reach and a historic World Cup defense in the cards, the Indian Women came out for the chase.
South Africa would strike relatively early, removing opener G Kamalini for just 8 runs. But, this would merely be a dent on the seemingly-impenetrable armour of the Indian batters, who would go on a romp.
Led by the quickfire scoring of Gongadi Trisha (44* off 33 balls) and Sanika Chalke (26* off 22 balls), India would close out the chase in just – overs and seal the historic win by eight wickets to take home their second Women’s U-19 World Cup.
