Former Sri Lankan Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne is reportedly set to retire from international cricket following the second Test against Australia which will be his 100th Test match.

Although Karunaratne has not officially confirmed his retirement, sources indicate that his illustrious career in the international cricket is nearing its conclusion.

However, it was reported that Karunaratne has informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that he will retire from both Test and international cricket following the Australia Test series.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old left arm opener will reportedly officially announce his decision during the press conference scheduled to be held tomorrow (05) before the start of the second Test against Australia.

The second Test against Australia is scheduled to commence on February 6, 2025, at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. It is expected to be an emotional farewell for Karunaratne, who has been a pillar of Sri Lanka’s batting lineup for over a decade.

Since 2015, Karunaratne has been the most prolific Test opener in world cricket, scoring more runs than any other player in his position. With 15 centuries and 34 half-centuries to his name, he has demonstrated remarkable consistency and resilience. His achievements include being named in the ICC Test XI three times—an accolade no other opener has matched in the last ten years.

As he approaches his 100th Test, Karunaratne’s total Test runs in 99 matches tallies to 7,172.
