Kandy to take on CR in Clifford Cup Final

League Champions Kandy Sports Club will take on CR & FC in the final of the Clifford Cup Knockout tournament at the Nittawela Stadium today.
The blockbuster encounter is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
Kandy led by Srinath Sooriyabandara will be favourites to clinch the Clifford Cup and complete the domestic double this evening.
They defeated debutants Sri Lions 41-08 in the quarterfinals while they outplayed CH & FC 31-21 in the semifinals.
CR & FC on the other hand is seeking their first silverware for the season, despite starting the year as defending league champions.
CR led by Gemunu Chethiya finished the league campaign on a disappointing third due to injuries to some of their key players during the season.
In the Clifford Cup, the Reds overcame Police Sports Club by 31-20 in quarterfinals while they secured a hard-fought 25-24 win over Havelock Sports Club in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, this evening’s Clifford Final is expected to draw a large crowd to the Nittawela Stadium as former Kandy and Sri Lanka captain Nigel Ratwatte will bid adieu to his illustrious rugby playing career.
