Asia Rugby Sevens Series: Sri Lanka finishes fourth after defeat to China

Sri Lanka led by Kavindu Perera finished fourth in the 2025 Asia Rugby Men’s Sevens Series - China leg after a 17-22 loss to host China in the third place playoff game in Hangzhou, a short while ago.

China led 17-05 at halftime but Dinal Ekanayake scored back-to-back tries to level the scores in the second half.

However, China managed to take the game after scoring a try in the dying stages of the encounter.

Earlier in the morning, Sri Lanka lost to Hong Kong 33-00 in the semi-final of the cup segment.

Although Sri Lanka lost to Japan 38-07 in the opening group game of the tournament yesterday, the Tuskers claimed 24-07 against Thailand and 34-07 against Singapore to qualify for the cup semi-final.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka finished ninth in the women’s segment of the tournament. Sri Lanka defeated Singapore 12-00 in the play-off final to claim the ninth place.

In the semi-final of the ninth place play-off Sri Lanka defeated Indonesia 24-17.

In the group stage, Sri Lanka lost to China 44-00, Malaysia 24-14 and the United Arab Emirates 41-00.
