ICC T20I Rankings: Chamari Atapattu enters top ten

Sri Lanka’s Chamari Atapattu has entered the top ten in the ICC Women’s T20 International batting rankings following her recent exploits at the Commonwealth Games qualifiers.

The Sri Lanka women’s T20 captain has moved up six places to eighth after scoring 221 runs at an average of 55.25 and a strike rate of 185.71 in the Commonwealth Games qualifiers.

In the latest weekly update that includes performances in the just concluded five-team ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has progressed six places to eighth after aggregating 221 runs in the tournament.

Athapaththu, who was named Player of the Series in the Kuala Lumpur tournament that also featured Bangladesh, Scotland, Kenya and hosts Malaysia, has moved up four places to 52nd among bowlers. 

Her four wickets in the tournament included a three-wicket haul in the decisive last match against Bangladesh on Monday.

Athapaththu is also up one place to seventh among all-rounders in the list led by New Zealand’s Sophie Devine.

Sri Lanka’s women’s team on Monday clinched the final place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games cricket tournament after beating Bangladesh by 22 runs on the final day of the Qualifier.

Both teams occupied the top two places going into a winner-takes-all clash at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
