LPL 2022: Kandy Falcons secures easy win over Colombo Stars

Kandy Falcons defeated Colombo Stars by 9 wickets in the second match of Sri Lanka Premier League 2022 played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Chasing a target of 107, Minod Bhanuka and Andre Fletcher opened the innings for Kandy Falcons. Colombo Stars got off to the right start as Lakmal removed Bhanuka early for just 6 runs.

Andre Fletcher and Kamindu Mendis then shared a 101-run partnership to seal a comfortable victory for the Kandy Falcons. Andre scored 44 (not out) off 41 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Mendis remained unbeaten on 51 off 48 balls. There were 5 fours in his innings.

For Kandy Falcons, Chamika Karunaratne managed to bowl with an impeccable spell. He took 4/11 from 3 overs. Meanwhile, Oshane Thomas took 3/20 from his 4 overs and Isuru Udana took 2/37. Fabian Allen took 1/20.

Earlier, winning the toss, Colombo Stars decided to bat first. Niroshan Dickwella and Dinesh Chandimal will open the innings for Colombo Stars. Dickwella was dismissed by Udana for a duck. Chandimal and Charith Aslanka then shared a 34-run partnership. Captain Angelo Mathews contributed 41 runs in 38 balls, including four fours and a six. However, the team could not really post a big total as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

For Colombo Stars, Suranga Lakmal picked up the only wicket with bowling figures of 1/19 in 2 overs.
