Big Bash League (BBL) Team Sydney Thunder have terminated Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi’s contract following a hearing held by Cricket Australia’s conduct commissioner.

According to a statement, the club received a complaint about Farooqi’s behavior after an incident on Thursday and referred the matter to CA’s integrity unit for investigation.

Following the investigation and a subsequent hearing and ruling by the commissioner, Thunder decided to terminate his contract.

A CA statement said that the details of this matter “are confidential” and that “no further comment will be made”. It is understood there was no police involvement in the incident.

“The behaviours displayed by Fazalhaq Farooqi sit outside our values and it was determined that his contract be terminated,” Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon said.

“Our focus now is providing the necessary support to those affected by this incident.”

Thunder have not made a decision yet about a replacement player.

Farooqi was signed in November as a replacement for David Willey who withdrew from the tournament.

He made Thunder’s starting XI in all the four matches they’ve played so far. He impressed in his very first outing for the club, picking 2 for 20 against Melbourne Stars and followed it up with 3 for 20 against Adelaide Strikers.
