Tharindu Perera appointed new asst. coach of women’s national cricket squad

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of Tharindu Perera as the Assistant Coach of the Sri Lanka National Women’s Team.

In a statement, the national cricket board said as a qualified coach with an ECB Level 4 Specialist Coach Award, Perera has coaching experience with Warwickshire Country Cricket Club, Adelaide Strikers, and West End Red Backs, among several others.

During his stint with Warwickshire as a High-Performance Coach, Perera has worked with its Coaching Team during the County Championship, Royal London One Day Cup, T20 Vitality Blast, and Warwickshire Academy.

At the Adelaide Strikers and West End Red Backs, he has been a support coach focusing on Batting and Spin.

Perera has also held stints as an Assistant Coach for the England Young Lions warm-up game against Sri Lanka U19’s tour to England in 2022.

Tenure as an Assistant Coach for the Adelaide University District Premier Women’s Squad also falls under Perera’s coaching experience, and he was the head coach for the Yorkshire County Cricket Club Women’s Team in 2019.

A holder of a BSc Honours in Sports Coaching from the Leeds Beckett University of the UK, Perera has played domestic cricket for the SSC, the Tamil Union, and County cricket for the Northamptonshire 2nd XI.

His two-year stint with Sri Lanka Cricket commenced with effect from July 01, 2023.
