Sri Lanka continued their winning streak today (07 Sep.), beating Bangladesh by 21 runs in the Super Four stage of the 2023 Asia Cup tournament.
Defending their score of 258 runs, the Sri Lankan bowlers were exceptional in their short-ball strategy, taking wickets at constant intervals and Matheesha Pathirana taking a game-changing three-wicket haul using his yorkers effectively while skipper Dasun Shanaka led from the front, taking three important wickets down.
Bangladesh’s batting innings began rather well, however they later lost footing after the Lions knocked out four crucial wickets, taking the visitors off their game.
Rather significant partnerships were, however, formed, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy building a 72-run partnership, and the latter’s impressive 82 runs off of 92 balls.
With 13 wins in their trot now, the Lions have earned two crucial points in the Super Four round-robin stage.
