Anusha Samaranayake appointed Sri Lanka’s new fast bowling coach

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday (March 22) announced three new appointments made to the High Performance Center. The appointments have been green-lighted by SLC’s Executive Committee.
As such the former first-class cricketer, Anusha Samaranayake was appointed as the new Fast Bowling Coach of the national team.
Samaranayake, who is a Level 3 qualified coach, assumed duties on March 06 for a period of two years and will focus on the ‘Fast Bowling’ aspect of all the national teams, the SLC said.
He previously worked as Sri Lanka’s Fast Bowling Coach from 2008 to 2015. A former first-class cricketer, he was part of Sri Lanka’s first test tour to England in 1984.
Meanwhile, Dr. Hashan Amarathunga has been appointed as the Sports Performance Nutritionist and Jonathan Porter as the Physiotherapist of the national cricket team.
Before joining SLC as the Sports Performance Nutritionist, Amarathunga served as the Senior Registrar in Clinical Nutrition of the National Hospital in Colombo.
Amarathunga holds an MD in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Colombo and has been working with the national team as the ‘Team Sports Nutrition Physician,’ before taking over the latest position on a full-time basis. He also holds a Diploma in Sports Nutrition offered by the International Olympic Committee and has worked with the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Hockey Team, among several other sports-related assignments.
Appointed on February 06 for a period of one year, Amarathunga will focus on the nutritional aspects of the national teams, starting from the U19 level.
Meanwhile, Porter, before joining the SLC, has served as the physiotherapist of the Australian Men’s Cricket Team, focusing on its white-ball tours in Australia, India, and South Africa.
