The selectors of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have decided to release Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, and Asitha Fernando for the third and final ODI of the ongoing series against New Zealand.
This decision was taken by the selectors to give the above players adequate time to recover and prepare for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, SLC announced.
Meanwhile, Nuwanidu Fernando, Lahiru Udara, and Eshan Malinga have been included in the ODI squad as replacements.
The third and final ODI of the ongoing series will be played on 19 November at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
However, Sri Lanka has already won the series with an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series as they registered a three-wicket win (DLS method) in the second ODI against New Zealand on Sunday (17).
Accordingly, Sri Lanka has finally shattered their ODI jinx against New Zealand, clinching their first series victory in this format over the Kiwis since November 2012.
