Angelo Mathews to replace Matheesha Pathirana in Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad

In a significant development for the Sri Lankan squad taking part in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, all-rounder Angelo Mathews is tipped to replace injured young pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana, Ada Derana learns.
This replacement comes after Pathirana was ruled out of the World Cup due to a shoulder injury he had sustained during Sri Lanka’s match against Pakistan on October 10.
Pathirana is yet to recover from his injuries, and thus, has been ruled out of Sri Lanka’s squad as per a request made to the International Cricket Council (ICC) by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). He has now returned home.
Sri Lanka’s campaign in the 2023 ICC World Cup has had its ups and downs. While the team has displayed flashes of brilliance, consistency has remained a challenge.
