Samsung’s new $5000 smart family hub fridge

With CES 2016 bringing so many interesting and exciting news about what technologies we can look forward to, it’s quite impressive that a fridge managed to capture everyone’s attention. Read on to find out more about Samsung’s new $5000 smart Family Hub fridge.

The tech titan announced their third attempt at a smart fridge a couple of days ago, in Las Vegas, at CES 2016. And they managed to garner enough attention, and not only because of the $5000 price tag.

In fact, for anyone with the money to spend on it, the Family Hub, as the refrigerator is called, sounds like a pretty decent investment, taking into account all it can do.

The refrigerator comes equipped with a 1080p 21.5 inch Gorilla Glass touch screen, capable of a very wide variety of features and capabilities.

First of all, the company is looking to add Amazon’s own Alexa to the device, offering 24/7 cloud connectivity, and giving the device a Cortana or Siri-like companion.

And now we delve deeper into the very expensive refrigerator’s extensive capabilities. And what better place to start than with the inside?

Because of course it does, the fridge comes equipped with cameras on the inside of the fridge, cameras which you can set to take a picture every time you close the refrigerator door. This way, you can use the app on your phone to see what’s left in the fridge from anywhere you are in the world.

But if you find it empty, don’t worry, Samsung also partnered up with MasterCard, offering a new online shopping experience. Using the app of the Family Hub’s touch screen, you can get in contact with a wide range of retailers, and order pretty much anything you want.

The fridge also has a built-in family communications center, as you can use the four door device’s touchscreen to leave notes, take and post selfies, share information, or even to draw directly on the fridge, or from the phone app.

Stereo speakers are also a default feature of the device, as well as an array of other entertainment features. You will be able to live stream music and videos, as well as TV, allowing you full Internet connectivity when in front of the refrigerator.

And, of course, the device will be connected to the Internet of Things, allowing you to change your house’s temperature, check if your door is locked, and even turn off the lights, if the refrigerator is coupled with such devices.

Samsung’s Family Hub is going to come out some time this spring, as I mentioned before, for the quite steep price of $5000.
