Parliament passes 2012 budget

2012 Budget was passed in Parliament today (Dec. 21) with a majority of 98 votes with 158 MPs voting for and 60 voting against. 

The third reading and final vote on the 2012 budget took place this evening.

The budget debate that commenced after it was presented to the Parliament on November 21 by President Mahinda Rajapaksha, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Planning, concluded with today’s vote.

The second reading of the 2012 budget was passed in Parliament on November 30 with 151 MPs voting for and 60 MPs voting against.
